VAG Service Intervals for VW, Audi, Ε koda, SEAT & Cupra
These are the intervals we use at Mechalex for Volkswagen Audi Group cars, next to what the manufacturer schedules say. Manufacturer schedules are built around the first few years of ownership. Many of our customers’ cars, and our own, are past 200,000 miles, and this is how we keep them there.
Exact intervals vary by engine, gearbox and model year. We check the schedule for your car from Volkswagen Group data before every service. Not sure what yours needs? Book online or call 0118 380 1003.

Servicing, filters, cambelt and brake fluid
Manufacturer figures are from Ε koda UK and Volkswagen UK, whose schedules follow the same Volkswagen Group pattern. See our VAG servicing page for what each service includes.
| Item | Manufacturer schedule | Mechalex recommends | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine oil and filter | Fixed: every 9,300 miles or 12 months. Flexible (LongLife): when the service indicator says, typically up to 2 years (VW UK) | Fixed or flexible, matched to how you drive | Flexible (LongLife) suits regular longer journeys. Short journeys, towing and tuned engines are better on fixed servicing |
| Pollen (cabin) filter | Every 2 years or 20,000 miles (Ε koda UK) | Every 20,000 miles | Keeps the air conditioning working well and the windscreen clear |
| Spark plugs (petrol) | Every 4 years or 40,000 miles (Ε koda UK) | Every 40,000 miles | Worn plugs strain ignition coils and cause misfires on TSI and TFSI engines |
| Air filter | Every 6 years or 60,000 miles (Ε koda UK) | Every 40,000 miles | We change it sooner because a clogged filter costs performance and economy |
| Fuel filter (diesel) | Every 6 years or 60,000 miles (Ε koda UK) | Every 40,000 miles or 5 years | Protects the injectors and high-pressure pump on TDI engines |
| Cambelt (timing belt) | Varies by engine; set out in the VW Group schedule for each car | Every 60,000 miles or 10 years | Change the water pump and tensioner at the same time. See cambelt and water pump replacement |
| Brake fluid | Changed when the schedule for your car calls for it; charged separately from the service | Every 2 to 3 years | Brake fluid absorbs water over time, which lowers its boiling point. See VAG brake repair |
DSG and S tronic gearbox oil
Schedule figures are from Volkswagen Group UK’s trade parts division, TPS. It lists no service interval for the DQ200 dry-clutch gearbox and 80,000 miles for the DQ381. We change DSG oil every 40,000 miles on every gearbox, including the DQ200, because clean oil protects the clutches and the mechatronic unit. Never mix DQ250 and DQ381 oils: they are different specifications. See DSG service and repair and mechatronic repair.
| Gearbox | Codes | Gears | Clutch | VW Group schedule | Mechalex recommends |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| DQ200 | 0AM, 0CW | 7-speed | Dry | No service interval | Oil change every 40,000 miles |
| DQ250 | 02E, 0D9 | 6-speed | Wet | 40,000 miles, fluid and filter | Oil and filter every 40,000 miles |
| DQ381 | 0GC | 7-speed | Wet | 80,000 miles, fluid only | Oil and filter every 40,000 miles |
| DQ400 (hybrid) | 0DD | 6-speed | Wet | 40,000 miles, fluid only | Oil every 40,000 miles |
| DQ500 | 0BH, 0BT, 0DL | 7-speed | Wet | 40,000 miles, fluid only | Oil every 40,000 miles |
| DL382 (Audi S tronic) | 7-speed | Wet | 40,000 miles, fluid only | Oil every 40,000 miles | |
| DL501 (Audi S tronic) | 0B5 | 7-speed | Wet | 40,000 miles, fluid and filter | Oil and filter every 40,000 miles |
Haldex, quattro and 4MOTION
Haldex all-wheel drive is often left off the schedule until it fails. Regular oil changes are much cheaper than a new pump or control unit.
| Item | Mechalex recommends | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Haldex oil and filter | Every 40,000 miles | Generation 5 has no filter, only a strainer that is cleaned at each oil change. A blocked filter is the most common cause of Haldex pump failure. See Haldex service |
| Front differential oil | Every 40,000 miles | See differential and 4WD servicing |
| Rear differential oil | Every 40,000 miles | Quattro and 4MOTION models |
