Get the stance right without compromising the van

The right wheels, tyres and suspension transform how a Transporter looks and drives. The wrong ones can rub under load, overload a tyre, upset the ABS and stability systems or leave the van riding badly. We help you choose a package that suits how you use your van, whether that is a daily workhorse, a family kombi or a weekend camper.

Alloy wheels

Supply and fitting of alloy wheel upgrades, checked for the correct fitment, offset and clearance on your Transporter, with the right wheel bolts and balancing.

Tyres

Tyres with the correct size, speed rating and load index for your van’s weights. Wet grip and road noise matter on a van too, and we will talk you through the options.

Lowering & suspension

Lowering springs, coilovers and replacement shocks, springs and bushes, fitted with the geometry set afterwards so the van tracks straight and wears tyres evenly.

Wheel alignment

Alignment after new tyres, suspension work or a kerb strike to stop pulling, uneven tyre wear and an off-centre steering wheel.

Worn suspension repairs

Knocks, clunks, wandering or a bouncy ride? We diagnose and replace worn shock absorbers, springs, drop links, ball joints and bushes.

4MOTION vans

Matching tyres front to rear matters on four-wheel-drive Transporters. We fit and check tyres with your 4MOTION Haldex system in mind.

Recent Transporter wheel and tyre upgrade

This T6.1 Transporter 4MOTION left our Aldermaston workshop on 18-inch black alloy wheels with Falken tyres. Paired with its LED headlight upgrade and black-pack styling, it gives the van a cohesive, factory-plus finish while keeping it practical for everyday use.

Every wheel and tyre change we make is finished with correct torque on the wheel bolts, balancing and a check of the tyre pressure warning system.

Transporter fitment essentials

T5, T6 and T6.1 Transporters share the same basic wheel fitment, which keeps the choice of wheels wide. The detail is where problems happen, so we check it for you.

  • Stud pattern: 5 x 120 with a 65.1 mm centre bore
  • Wheel bolts: M14 x 1.5, with the correct seat type for the wheel
  • Wheel load rating suitable for your van’s gross weight
  • Offset and tyre size checked for clearance at full steering lock and under load
Load index matters on a van. Transporters are heavy, and many are loaded or converted. Tyres must meet the minimum load index for your van’s axle weights, not just fit the wheel. We check this before ordering.

Lowering or a change of wheel and tyre size should be declared to your insurer.

How it works

  1. Tell us what you want

Call or book online with your registration and how you use the van. We check fitment and recommend wheels, tyres or suspension to suit.
  2. Fit & set up

We fit everything in our Aldermaston workshop, torque the wheel bolts, balance the wheels and set the geometry where needed.
  3. Test & hand over

The van is road tested, warning systems are checked, and we will advise on re-torquing wheel bolts after the first few miles.

Transporter wheels, tyres and suspension FAQs

Will bigger alloy wheels make the ride harsher?

Larger wheels with lower-profile tyres usually firm up the ride a little. Choosing the right tyre and keeping the suspension in good condition makes a big difference, and we will explain the trade-offs before you decide.

Do I need wheel alignment after lowering my Transporter?

Yes. Lowering changes the suspension geometry, so the alignment should be set afterwards to avoid uneven tyre wear and poor straight-line stability. Headlight aim should also be checked after a ride-height change.

What tyres should I fit to my Transporter?

The right tyre depends on your wheel size, load and how you drive. The key is the correct size, speed rating and load index for your van. We are happy to recommend options at different price points.

My Transporter knocks over bumps. Can you find the cause?

Yes. Knocks are commonly caused by worn drop links, anti-roll bar bushes, ball joints or top mounts. We inspect the suspension on a ramp and give you a clear, itemised quote. See our steering and suspension service for more.
